In this 3-week course, you will make a simple dress from start to finish and even dye the fabric yourself with plants!
Week one will cover all the basics of natural dyeing, and students can choose between 3 colours to dye the fabric for the dress. Choose blush pink/peach, dyed with avocado pits, yellow/orange, dyed with onion skins or turmeric or brown/beige, dyed with cutch.
The following two weeks will be about constructing the dress: cutting, sewing, and binding.
This dress comes in 5 sizes : XS, S, M, L, XL. It is loose fitting, sleeveless, and has a slightly gathered skirt. It is helpfully if students already know the basics on the sewing machine before this course.

She completed a Fibre Arts certificate course in Canada and has worked at a sewing and textile studio in Toronto for several years. She likes making all different things, but mostly her focus has been on hand quilting and natural dyeing as means of slowing down and enjoying the process of her craft. Alice teaches quilting and naturaly dying workshops and courses at De Steek on Sundays.
*If you miss the second or third lesson, you can catch up in the Sewing Cafe on a date/time of your preference.
