New workshop! “Le papion” bow tie workshop will show you the steps you need to take when creating an accessory as elegant and “fragile” as the bow tie.
In this two-hour workshop you can create a bow tie for yourself or create one as a gift for a friend or family member. Otilia Adam, a textile designer from Romenia, is an expert in creating bow ties. She studied the history, what materials to use and the construction for some time now and wants to share this knowledge with you. For this workshop you can bring your own upcycled materials (for example left overs from garments that you made), but you can also use the materials provided, because everything is included in the workshop. Create this lovely bow tie, using unique fabrics that suit your style!
“When you wear a bowtie, doors open for you. Your posture is a little more erect; your sholders are a little further back; your style is a little more dynamic. It’s about the reestablishment of the gentleman.”
Otilia Adam is a textile designer from Romenia. She studied at the University of Art and Design in Cluj Napoca, the textile design department, the bachelor’s, and the master’s degree. During her master’s degree, she also followed the Erasmus scholarship in Lodz, Poland. There she learned different techniques of printing, weaving, and dyeing textiles. In the last 7 years, she worked on her own textile materials by making different accessories as well as bags or clothing items. And for 3 months she did an internship at RossiModa, working for brands like Louis Vuitton & Givenchy. Her passion for textiles does not stop here, both making and selling her own designs and now also teaching textile workshops at De Steek.
“In my view, to wear a bow tie you need attitude, not everyone can wear a bow tie, but magic happens when you wear a bow tie and how this non-conforming accessory can change your life.”
