Denim is a difficult material to use in diy-terms. Because the material needs different ways of finishing and stitching to make it look professional. De Steek hired an expert to give you all the ins and outs of denim and together with her it is possible to create your own perfect denim shirt.
Destiny van Vliet is a freelance fashion designer. She graduated as a denim designer/developer at Jean School Amsterdam. At the moment she is also working as a brand manager at the company Ink Inklusive. She started here as an intern during her studies. In this company she learned a lot about sustainability and over-production in the denim industry. During her study she developed her passion for denim and she loves to learn people about it, because it needs such a specific way of handling. Destiny is denim expert at De Steek and gives different denim courses. She loves to tell you everything about it.
Both men and women can follow this course. Beginners are also welcome. In the course you will receive a basic pattern in sizes S, M or L and you can alter the pattern to your wishes, with the help of Destiny. For example: change the shape into a denim dress, long shirt, cropped shirt or keep the standard shape. And what about the pockets? More advanced students can also work with different panels.
It is possible to book this course with or without the materials included. It is important though that the denim is not too thick. The jeans we offer are organic and natural dyed. We offer different colors as well. We already offer the right thickness. If you’re not sure if you want to have the materials included or not, Destiny can give you advise in the first lesson about the materials.
